Day one draws Rs 7 lakh crore investment plansThe four day long Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit-2009 has started in Ahmedabad to discuss various business and investment issues. Top corporate icons may announce some investment plans in all economic sectors including oil and gas, power, infrastructure, ports ship-building and information technology at the submit.

The Monday event was attended by Mukesh Ambani, Ratan Tata, Kumar Mangalam Birla, Sashi Ruia, Captain GR Gopinath, OP Bhatt, N Vittal, Anand Mahindra and Tulsi Tanti at Ahmedabad. Foreign delegates from Japan, Singapore, Italy, the UK, Canada, Uganda, Sri Lanka and Korea also participated in the event.
 
Some corporate giants announced Rs 7 lakh crore investment planes in the first day of Summit.

Most of the commitments were done in the field of Infrastructure and power sector. A total of 122 memoranda of understanding (MoUs), worth 2.09 lakh crore, were signed for the infrastructure sector which has a capacity to provide employment to around 828,000 people. Dholera Special Investment Region emerged as most attractive investment place to the business community.

Total of 29 MoUs, worth Rs 2.03 lakh crore, were signed in the electric power generation sector at the first day of event. 17 MoUs, involving an investment of Rs 77,248 crore, were singed for Special economic zones (SEZs). Prasoon Mukherjee-promoted Universal Success announced to invest Rs 87,000 crore for various development projects in Gujarat.

Mr. Ratan Tata said, "I am proud that I listened to my own advice...Perhaps, I am not stupid any longer." He committed to invest Rs 21,000 crore over the next three years in Gujarat.
