Dialogue is the only way to resolve a dispute: Dalai Lama

New Delhi, Nov 13 : Exiled Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama today said that dialogue and compromise alone offer a realistic solution to problems in today's world.

"Today's reality is that one-sided victory or one-sided defeat is impossible, ” said the Dalai Lama in his address at the 'Satyagraha Centenary International Conference' at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) here.

“Under the circumstance, even if there's conflict you have to solve through dialogue and compromise that's the only way. We should have some clear sort of awareness that as soon as we face any problem we must remember the solution to the problem is only through dialogue, '' he added.

He said the use of force is simply unrealistic because of the interdependence of nations in the current times and force would only mean war, which would not benefit any of the countries.

The Dalai Lama also emphasised the importance of 'Ahimsa' (non-violence) and urged Indian youths to inculcate the practice in every aspect of their lives.

"Ahimsa, not only the concept of Ahimsa but the practice of Ahimsa is very, very essential. Any wonderful concept remains just a concept not much effective, must implement, " he said.

The Dalai Lama has been living in exile in India since fleeing Buddhist homeland in 1959 after a failed uprising against the Communist rule in China.

The Buddhist spiritual leader has set up his seat of power at Dharamsala in Himachal Pradesh, which is regarded as the hub of Tibetan culture.

In his latest diplomatic move, the Dalai Lama is to meet Pope Benedict at the Vatican in December.

Winner of the Nobel Peace prize in 1989 for his peaceful campaign against the Chinese rule, the Dalai Lama was recently honoured with the U. S. Congressional Gold Medal. (ANI)
