Differently-abled children get a joy ride on Air India flight

Cochin, Dec 3: Over 100 differently -abled children got a joy ride on an Air India flight named ‘Wings of Care’, which took them from Cochin to Trivandrum.

This gave them an aerial view of the Vivekanand Rock in the middle of the ocean.

The aim behind organising the joy ride for the children, who are from various schools and institutions, was to provide them with a first hand experience of travelling in a plane.

"It is like you are feeling you are with the children in the sky. So, we call it the 'Place in the Sky'. The object is basically to give these children, who have never got this opportunity, a chance to be with us and to get a first hand experience of this flight," said S.D.M. Irani, Deputy Manager of the Air India.

The children had a blast on their journey as they enjoyed the scenic beauty of the state dubbed as 'God's own country' for its natural splendour. For most of them, it was a first time experience.

"This is my first time in a plane. I am very happy. I'm really enjoying it," said Neetu Mol.

They got a joy ride on the eve of World Disabled Day.

Proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in October 1992, the World Disabled
Day aims to raise awareness on disabled people's rights at national and international levels.

The World Health Organisation estimates that there are 600 million disabled people worldwide, about 10 percent of the world population. It is also estimated that about 80 percent of all disabled people worldwide live in developing countries. (ANI)
