Eskom promotes Collin Matjilaas acting CEOEskom has said that it has promoted itsnon-executive board member Collin Matjila as the acting CEO from 1 April, 2014.

Brian Dames, the outgoing Chief Executive officer of the company is expected to leave the company after four years in the power company. The change in the head of the company comes at a time when the company is struggling to add capacity in the country in order to meet the growing demand. The company is boosting its capacity in order to generating capacity online and avoid further load shedding.

PravinGordhan, the Finance Minister of South Africasaid that the country will have adequate electricity supply in two years in the country. However, the claims were contradicted by outgoing Eskom CEO Brian Dames, who said that it will take upto ten years for the country to assure appropriate power supply. The company had advertised for the post in the previous week but it has been looking for his replacement since several months.

Eskom said: "The Board took the considered view that while the company's executives are sufficiently competent for this position, their pressing priority is managing the highly constraint electricity system. The executives are however eligible and free to apply for the full-time position."
