EU sends Afghanistan 2 million euros in flood aid
Brussels - The European Union on Wednesday sent 2 million euros (3 million dollars) in aid to help flood victims in Afghanistan, the bloc's executive said.
Flood-hit populations in the north of the country "face an increasingly tough situation as winter approaches and food supplies become increasingly scarce," the European Commission said in a statement.
The EU's money is therefore intended to help locals obtain food, primarily through "food for work" and "cash for work" programmes, but also by handing out provisions directly, the statement said.
Separately, the bloc has decided to allocate 1 million euros from an existing aid scheme to provide shelter for flood victims. (dpa)
