Forbes names two Indians among top 15 education innovators list
Forbes magazine has named two Indians, Suneet Singh Tuli and Anant Agarwal, in the list of its top 15 education innovators.
Suneet Singh Tuli is the chief executive officer of Datawind, which is well-known for low-cost tablet Aakash. Anant Agarwal is a professor of computer science at Massachusettes Institute of Technology (MIT).
The magazine has called the duo "classroom revolutionaries" who are reinventing education for students as well as teachers worldwide harnessing slew of disruptive technologies.
The Forbes said that the fifteen education innovators are using innovative technologies to overhaul everything from the way students are taught mathematics in grade school to how the next-generation of teachers is trained.
About 44-year-old Mr. Tuli, the magazine said that his invesntion, the Aakash tablet computer, has the potential to transform educational access in the emerging economies.
Speaking about his invention, Mr. Tuli said, "I don't care about creating the iPad killer. I care about the 3 billion people who can afford this device."
Mr Agarwal, 53, is the President of edX, the new combined online offerings of MIT, Harvard, the University of Texas and the University of California. At present, more than 400,000 are enrolled in the education programme.
