Former Atletico Madrid's Aguirre wants to coach English club

Former Atletico Madrid's Aguirre wants to coach English club Mexico City  - Mexico's Javier Aguirre, former coach of the Spanish club Atletico Madrid, said he wants to move to England for his next coaching assignment.

Aguirre told the Mexican radio station Radio Formula on Tuesday that he was not aspiring to become the coach of his home country's national squad but rather to move to England to work with a team there.

He said he liked the British style of football: "the way football is lived there, how the coach is being respected, because of the way football is played there in its true form -
11 versus 11, the reds against the blues."

Aguirre was officially sacked at Atletico earlier Tuesday after a string of defeats as the team slipped in Spain's Primera Liga down to seventh place.

He was replaced by former Atletico goalkeeper Abel Resino. Aguirre, 50, took over at Atletico in 2006 after four moderately successful years at Osasuna. He managed to win a place in this season's Champions League, in which Atletico is to face FC Porto in the round of 16. (dpa)
