Ganguly Features In CPI-M Calendar

Ganguly Features In CPI-M Calendar Life begins after retirement! Perhaps this might sound true for former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly. Even after retiring from the international cricket, Ganguly’s appeal is still unrelieved.

The latest news is that the Bengal icon has appeared in the DYFI’s (CPM’s youth wing) calendar for 2009. The calendar was unveiled at Ganguly’s residence in Behala on Friday.

The DYFI's zonal committee at Rajarhat conceived the idea to honour the former Indian skipper.

Commenting over this idea, DYFI leader and Rajarhat-Gopalpur municipality chairman Tapas Chatterjee said, “We wanted to do something new this year. So we struck upon this idea. We have taken Ganguly's approval before publishing the calendar.”

The municipality has also decided to organize a blood donation camp on Ganguly's birthday on July 8 next.

Speaking at this event, an elated Ganguly said: "It's really nice to see I have the support of so many people."

When asked about the question of joining politics, Ganguly said, “No, Never.”

Earlier there were speculations that the former ace left handed opening batsman would be fielded by the CPI-M as its candidate against Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, but the former Indian captain termed it as completely untrue.

Ganguly retired from international cricket early November.
