GE and BHEL team-up for railway tenderGE Transportation and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) plan to jointly bag the 1,000 diesel locomotive tender issued by the Indian Railways.

GE Transportation is a unit of General Electric Company and a global diesel locomotive technology leader which is short listed by Indian railways to compete the tender. GE and BHEL and Indian Railways would form a joint venture for the entire process.

GE Transportation would provide diesel locomotives based on the company’s global Evolution Series locomotive platform. These are very fuel efficient and provide 40% reduction in emissions as compared to previous models of locomotives. These consume around 300,000 gallons of fuel for their entire life and are one of the best products of GE Transport for higher fuel efficiency.

The Evolution Series locomotive is also certified under “Ecomagination” program. Ecomagination ensures utilization of environment friendly technology, fuel efficiency and low prices.

GE would bring the most advanced rail technology to India if it bags the tender. GE’s locomotives are designed in the John F. Welch Technology Center in Bangalore keeping environment factors, cost, fuel efficiency and other attributes in mind. President and CEO of GE Transportation, Lorenzo Simonelli said that the company in partnership with BHEL would provide best products to the country at very cost effective rates.
