London, Mar. 01 - A new range of futuristic furniture has been developed that can charge smartphones, which that will bring an end to wire-filled rooms.
Swedish firm, Ikea, has become the first in the UK to launch a revolutionary range of furniture with built-in wireless charging spots, the Daily Star reported.
The phone-boosting fittings include tables, lamps and bedside cabinets. The new range will go on sale next month with prices starting at 30 pounds. (ANI)
Washington, Feb 28 : Apple has been slapped with a lawsuit by Ericsson over alleged violation of 41 patents that essentially apply to iPhone and iPad sales.
According to Tech Crunch, Ericsson, the pioneering wireless technology has filed suit against Apple both with the International Trade Commission (ITC) and the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.
The company has claimed in the lawsuit that these include patents related to 2G and LTE tech and also non-standard patents dealing with software and component hardware design, the report said.
Ericsson has requested the barring of sale of Apple devices in the filing.
The move is seen as an attempt by Ericsson to seek damages from Apple. (ANI)
Washington, Feb 28 : Apple CEO Tim Cook has hinted at the possibility of Apple Watch replacing users' car keys.
According to Tech Crunch, it's a powerful use case to propose because it's immediately apparent that if one already has an Apple Watch for the benefits of notifications and communication it offers, migrating the functions of other dedicated gadgets with similar radio and sensor loadouts to the wearable makes a ton of sense.
He says that a car key fob is not far from being a reality and that very little work would be required in that front. (ANI)
Washington, Feb 28 : Google has changed its decision to ban sexually explicit content on Blogger as it might have a negative impact on users who post such images to express their identities, said a post on the company's product forums by Social Product Support Manager Jessica Pelegio.
According to the Verge, the company earlier banned porn and other sexually explicit images from its blogging platform and had given users a time period of 30 days to comply or get banned from hosting public blogs.
Pelegio wrote that rather than banning the content, the company decided to step up enforcement around the current policy that prohibits commercial porn .
She said that they received feedbacks from users regarding the retroactive enforcement of the policy.

New Delhi, Feb 27 : Japan Airlines will be expanding its in-flight WIFI services for customers.
Since 2012, Japan Airlines has been offering in-flight services with Boeing 777-300ERs.
The airline will start expand to include Boeing 767-300ERs and Boeing 787-8s Wi-Fi service in Europe, North America and long-haul Asia routes from March 3 under the theme "Embrace new Challenges".
The service will be applicable on Boeing 767-300ERs under which nine planes have been scheduled for the financial year 2015. For Boeing 787-8s, three planes are scheduled in financial year 2015.
The service will be continued for more Boeing 787-8s for the financial year 2016.
London, Feb 26 - KFC has launched a unique coffee cup, that you can munch up, after finishing your coffee, and it's made of white chocolate.
The new offering of the giant food chain, called Scoff-ee Cup, has been made from a unique biscuit, wrapped in sugar paper and lined with an indulgent layer of chocolate, which keeps the coffee hot and the cup crispy, the Mirror reported.
After a while, the chocolate lining begins to melt so one has to literally eat the cup up.
Brandy Wright of The Robin Collective, who were partners in the creation, said that the cups not only taste amazing, but they smell delicious too, as they are infused with mood-boosting scents, including freshly cut grass and coconut sun cream.
Washington, Feb 25 : Microsoft is reportedly introducing the concept of wearable keyboards to its own Band hardware.
According to the Verge, Microsoft's Band has become a lot more useful for Windows Phone users, thanks to a new Cortana-powered dictation mode for replying to texts and the addition of a virtual keyboard.
It operates exactly like a standard QWERTY keyboard.
Microsoft is resorting to its Word Flow software from Windows Phone for accurate detection of letters and words. (ANI)
Washington, Feb 25 : Reddit, the online message board known for its users' unrestrained posts, is going to restrict people from posting naked photos and sex videos from March 10 onwards if they do not have the permission from the people being depicted in them.
Under the new ban, affected people can write an email to the company on contact reddit com to remove the offensive photos or videos.
Reddit has a following of nearly 160 million users who can express themselves with various degrees of anonymity to communicate about any topic.
Washington, Feb 25 : Pebble has introduced a new smartwatch called "Pebble Time" on kickstarter that has made five million dollars in just half an hour from pre-orders.
The company's repeated success has started a debate that it is too successful to turn to a crowdfunding site.
According to Tech Crunch, it has a week-long battery life and features a slimmer and sleeker design.
The hardware has a full colour, always on e-paper screen. It is 20 percent thinner than the original Pebble and supports customer watch faces but the emphasis is now shifted to notifications.
The smartwatch is named 'time' because time is the central idea on the device, eschewing individual apps in favour of a timeline that displays most pressing notifications.
Washington, Feb 25 - Microsoft has decided to roll out Office 365 to students across the globe free of cost.
The company said on Tuesday that the offer was being extended anywhere Office is available, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, or dozens of countries around the world. It added that schools must license Office in order for its students to be eligible, reported PC World.
The move came two years after Microsoft announced that it would offer Microsoft Office to U. S. students for free.
Students can go to office. com/getoffice365 and enter a school-provided email address, and teachers can visit the office. com/teachers site and do the same. (ANI)
Washington, Feb 24 : Finally heeding to parents' demands, YouTube has reportedly released an app for kids.
It is touted to be "the first Google product built from the ground up with little ones in mind" and is available for Android and iOS users, The Verge reported.
It offers a curated selection of videos appropriate for young viewers and features a "bright and playful design" meant to grab the attention of kids.
YouTube for Kids has four sections: shows, music, learning, and explore.
The collection of videos comprise a pretty extensive vault of popular children's content from Reading Rainbow, DreamWorks TV, Jim Henson TV, Mother Goose Club, Talking Tom and Friends, and others.
Washington, Feb 24 - Apple's newly launched second OS X 10.10.3 and iOS 8.3 beta updates offer a glimpse of what its " multicultural emojis" would look like, a report said.
The updates feature a redesigned emoji keyboard and emoji skin tone modifiers. Any human icon can be given a new skin tone if the user taps and holds the character. The available skin tones are based on five tones in the Fitzpatrick scale, a dermatology standard adopted by the Unicode Consortium, reported The Verge.
Its family emoji category now also includes same-sex couples and couples without children.
There are also more than 300 new additions to the emoji group.
The old watch emoji has now been changed into an Apple watch.
Washington, Feb 23 - Pictures of HTC's new model called One M9 has reportedly been leaked out just days before its scheduled launch.
According to the Verge, Mobile Geeks has come across online listings of HTC's new flagship - expected to be called the One M9 - which provide a full set of specifications and press images alongside a price of 749 euros in Germany.
The leaked pictures show that the new phone will have a 2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage plus microSD expansion.
The device will operate on Android 5.0 Lollipop and will come equipped with a new Sense 7 software skin.
In the front, the device will have an UltraPixel camera and on the rear, it will have a new 20-megapixel sensor placed inside a camera module. (ANI)
London, Feb 21 - World renowned coffee shop chain Starbucks would soon be serving alcoholic drinks in the evenings at its UK outlets.
The company said though they won't be selling spirits like gin, whisky or vodka, the branches will serve food alongside premium wines and beers, and the alcohol would be available for consumption on the premises only, the Daily Star reported.
Ian Cranna, VP marketing for Starbucks Europe said that "welcoming coffeehouse environment" has always been their focus, and with their new evening menu, which would be available from about 4 pm, they were offering something terrific choices to the later in the day customers.

The secret formula, which claims to be publicly available since 1993, includes herbs like nutmeg, coriander, vanilla and cinnamon, the Mirror reported.
Mark Pendergrast first published the secret history of the company in the book For God, Country and Coca-Cola, which had a surprising appendix where he stumbled on the special list of ingredients, that company kept as secret.

Tokyo, Feb. 20 - Toshiba Corporation has announced the beginning of commercial operation of Kenya's Olkaria Geothermal Power Plant.
The official opening ceremony of Kenya's largest geothermal power complex was held at the site on February 19 in the presence of President Uhuru Kenyatta and other government officials.
Kenya Electricity Generating Company Ltd. awarded a full turnkey contract for Olkaria I and IV to a consortium of Korea's Hyundai Engineering Co. Ltd. and Japan's Toyota Tsusho Corporation in 2011.
Toshiba, selected by Hyundai Engineering to provide key equipment, supplied four 70-megawatt turbines and generators for the plant in 2013.
Olkaria IV started commercial operation in September 2014, followed by Olkaria I in January this year.
Washington, Feb 20 - Stayzilla, an India-based service that combines regular hotel bookings with short-term, Airbnb -style rentals, has raised 20 million dollars in series B round for its hybrid service.
According to TechCrunch, Stayzilla's focus is on allowing users book accommodation across India for a stay of up to one month.
Stayzilla CEO and co-founder Yogendra Vasupal said that the service has almost 22,000 rooms wherein 36 percent of them are alternative and across 4,000 towns as of December 2014.
Vasupal said that alternative accommodation has emerged over the past year and the company aims to hit 50,000 rooms by the end of 2015. (ANI)
New Delhi: In a possible case of corporate espionage, the Delhi Police have detained two Petroleum Ministry employees and three others for allegedly leaking confidential government documents.
As per reports, the Delhi Police carried out raids at Shastri Bhavan and nabbed the two - one a peon and the other is a clerk.
However, they are said to have had access to the offices of senior officials in the ministry. Of the the other three, one has claimed to be a journalist.
Media reports said that the detained men are being questioned and will be put under arrest. The reports added, the five have allegedly leaked official documents to business houses.
Washington, Feb 19 : Microsoft has reportedly announced its decision to end support for its Windows Phone's Rooms group chat, beginning next month.
The company said in an email that the move was aimed at making way for new features in Windows 10 that will enable users to keep in touch with friends and family, reported The Verge.
Rooms group chats were extension to the People hub that allowed users to hold conversations, share images, notes and calendars in private groups.
Windows Phone 8 users will be able to view their existing "Rooms" but will not be able to create new ones or send any messages from March. The group chat feature will be removed entirely for those who update to Windows 10 Technical Preview for phones.
