Bollywood can now hope to breathe easy. In a landmark decision, the Delhi High Court on Friday struck down the Centre's October 2006 notification banning smoking scenes in films. The HC said that the onscreen smoking is a part of the artist’s creative licence.

While lecturing on this, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul said, “Director of films should not have multifarious authorities breathing down their necks when indulging in a creative act.”

Latest Bollywood flick and India’s first made-in-China film, Chandni Chowk to China, has got another reason to be back in the news. The film, this time, has angered the people of Nepal for its false and deceptive references over the birth place of Lord Buddha.

While speaking on this, Nepalese Information and Communication Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara said, “Nepal's Council of Ministers headed by Prime Minister Prachanda decided to direct the Foreign Ministry to take up the issue with the agencies concerned in India.”

The Malabar Hill police arrested film financier Bharat Shah on Thursday, in connection with an old cheating case registered against him by a Silvassa court.

The case against Bharat Shah, who also happens to be a leading diamond merchant, had been lodged nine years back in 2000, against a Silvassa-based company Vishal Chairs of which Shah was a director.

The Malabar Hill police produced Shah in the Girgaum metropolitan court, which remanded Shah to police custody till Friday.

The Supreme Court will hear Maharashtra government’s appeal to stop releasing Kamal Khan’s controversial movie ‘Deshdrohi’ on Jan 23, in view of intelligence inputs that it may lead to law and order problem in the state.

The film ‘Deshdrohi’ is set to be released on Friday (Jan 23).

The Patna court sued Bollywood superstar Anil Kapoor and music director A R Rahman for allegedly calling slum inhabitants’ names in “Slumdog Millionaire”. The film is all set for an all-India release on January 23.
