German football association investigating Dortmund's Schmelzer

German football association investigating Dortmund's Schmelzer Frankfurt - Borussia Dortmund defender Marcel Schmelzer is being investigated by the German football association for an incident that occurred during Dortmund's goalless Bundesliga draw on the weekend against Hoffenheim.

Television footage suggested that Schmelzer deliberately stood on the leg of opponent Tobias Weis, who was sent off for an infringement that happened just seconds earlier.

Referee Herbert Fandel, who said he did not see Schmelzer commit any offence, which in turn allowed the DFB to investigate the matter, also sent off Dortmund's Sebastian Kehl for the incident that saw Weis red-carded.

Schmelzer and Weis have been asked to comment on the matter and the DFB will decide on any further action thereafter. (dpa)
