Ghana book semi-final spot with victory over South Korea
Cairo - Ghana became the first side to make it to the last four of the Under-20 World Cup finals in Egypt Friday as two goals from Dominic Adiyiah ensured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over South Korea.
Adiyiah put the last African team left in the tournament ahead after just eight minutes at Suez's Mubarak stadium and Ghana doubled their lead shortly before the half-hour mark courtesy of an effort from Ransford Osei.
Kim Hee Seong pulled one back for the Koreans almost immediately but Adiyiah, who netted the extra-time winner against South Africa in the last round, restored Ghana's two-goal cushion with his second of the game 12 minutes from time.
Substitute Kim Dong Sub reduced the deficit to 3-2 with eight minutes remaining but Ghana held on to set up a semi-final date against the winner of Friday's second quarter-final between Italy and Hungary.
On Saturday, Brazil take on Germany and the United Arab Emirates face Costa Rica in other quarter-final matches. dpa
