Gogoi: Assam to form Special Task Force

The Assam Government has decided to constitute a Special Task Force to combat deal with militancy and combat terrorist activities in the state.

It will work on the lines National Security Guards (NSG).

At the initial level two battalions of the STF will be raised. One Inspector General of Police (IGP) rank officer will head STF.

This was announced by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi while talking to reporters. A new police district will be formed exclusively for Guwahati headed by a Commissioner rank officer.

Gogoi who holds the Home Dept. portfolio said that the investigation into the serial blasts is going in the right path. But at the same time he hinted of taking tough action against those police personnel who eased the security levels in the area.

Reacting to the shut down call by AASU the CM said that this is not a time for such calls to make political scores.

12 serial blasts devastated the hilly state on 30 October, leaving 76 dead and over 300 injured. The blasts occurred at Guwahati, Kokrajhar, Barpeta Road and Bongaigaon.
