Hoax ‘bomber’ nabbed

The caller may have been mentally disturbed, say police

The crime branch officials have nabbed a youth who allegedly called up a private news channel on Thursday claiming that bombs had been planted in six Bhuj-bound trains and they would explode anytime. The call had the police rushing to sanitise Kalupur railway station premises.

Officials from crime branch and railway police hurriedly conducted a search operation at every nook and corner of the railway station, but the call turned out to be a hoax.

According to crime branch sources, Sunil Kushwaha, a resident of C-503, Sarjan Tower, Memnagar who hails from Bhuj, has been detained in this connection. Kushwaha, is a first-year aeronautical engineering student at a engineering college situated near Gota.

DCP Abhay Chudasama said, “Kushwaha has apparently been disturbed over his parents who are not at good terms with each other. His parents, two brothers and a sister live in Bhuj.” Kushwaha had even attempted suicide earlier, said Chudasama.

Sources said the crime branch handed over Kushwaha to the railway police on Friday evening.

Crime branch sources said Kushwaha on Thursday evening made a call to a private news channel to inform them that bombs had been planted in six Bhuj-bound trains and they would explode anytime. Kushwaha then called up another news channel claiming that bombs had been planted in trains. While trying to trace the calls, the crime branch found that calls were made from a cellphone and the number, 9712708881, belonged to Dihen Makwana, a resident of Junagadh. However, the location from where the call was made was found to be Zakaria Masjid and Sarjan Tower, Memnagar. The crime branch officials conducted a search operation at Sarjan Tower and found that the mobile belonged to Kushwaha.

Kushwaha was not traced there but the police met one Ashraf, a friend of Kushwaha. When interrogated, Ashraf, who also provided police a photo of Kushwaha, told police that Kushwaha had gone to Delhi.

Incidentally, the second call about the bombs in train was traced to the room number 206 of Hotel Rajvansh. The crime branch officials then raided the hotel and caught Kushwaha there.

Crime branch sources said that since 26th of the month had witnessed terror activities in the past, the department took up the matter seriously.
