Home Ministry team visits Assam

Assam, GuwahatiNew Delhi, Nov 19 : A Central team led by the Secretary (Border Management) in the Ministry of Home Affairs Jarnail Singh visited Assam on November 17-18 .

On November 17th, the team held discussions with the State Government officials on issues relating to the National Register of Citizens (NRC). The team also held a meeting with the State Government officials and representatives of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).

The team discussed implementation of various schemes under the BTC. A Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) was signed between the Central Government, the Government of Assam and the BLT on February 10th, 2003 to resolve the Bodo issues.

As per the MoS, 39 projects have been approved by the Centre since 2004-05. The total approved cost of these projects is Rs. 439.02 crore and Rs. 381.44 crore has been released.

The Prime Minister has announced an additional Rs. 250 crore. During the meeting with the Central team, it was emphasised that the schemes should be formulated expeditiously to utilize the money. It was also emphasised that a monitorable action plan should be submitted for utilizing the funds.

On November 18th , the Central team visited the Karim Ganj Sector of the Indo-Bangladesh Border. The team expressed its satisfaction over the progress of the fencing work. Some State Government officials also accompanied the team during the visit. (ANI)
