Hyundai to launch diesel variant of its hatchback i20 by 2009-endPutting into execution its plan of a yearly launch of at least two new car models in the Indian market over the next couple of years, the Korean auto giant Hyundai Motor Company intends launching the diesel variant of its finest hatchback i20 by 2009-end.

Hyundai’s future move of launch of new products for the 10 lakh units-strong Indian car market is being undertaken with the aim of giving a boost to its market share - more so because, as per the industry projections, the Indian market will likely grow to nearly 15 lakh units by 2012-13.

Young-Kil Chun - Hyundai Motor’s Senior VP for its Asia and Pacific Division – said: “We currently have a 20.4 percent market share. For the year ending 2009 we will look at growing our market share further by three percent.”

Chun said that keeping up pace with the expected growth in the Indian car market, Hyundai, which is currently exporting its vehicles to more than 110 countries, will be able to acquire almost one-fourth share of the market.

Saying that India is geared up to play a crucial role in the Asian car market, Chun said that, by 2013, Hyundai is looking at a global target of reaching a six million - 60 lakh - units combined capacity from its Hyundai and Kia plants.
