Indian mobile services market to touch Rs 1.2 trillion in 2013
According to the latest estimates, the mobile services market in India is set to rise 8 per cent during the year to touch Rs 1.2 trillion.
The value of the country's mobile services market was recorded at about Rs. 1.1 trillion during the previous year. Data from global research firm Gartner said Monday also showed that the Indian mobile services market accounts for 2 per cent of the global mobile services revenue even as the country accounts for about 12 per cent of all the mobile phone users in the world.
Gartner's principal research analyst Shalini Verma said, "The mobile market in India will continue to face challenges if average revenue per unit does not grow significantly. If the prevailing conditions do not change in the Indian telecom market, India will account for 12% worldwide mobile connections, but just 2% of worldwide mobile services revenue in 2013."
The report also estimated that the total number of active mobile connections will rise to 770 million in 2013 recording an increase of 11 per cent over 712 million subscribers recorded during 2012. Several players like `Whatsapp' and `Facebook app' are increasing looking to attract more customers to improve their profits on the platform in the country.
