Indonesian plane makes emergency landingJakarta - An Indonesian airplane with 112 people on board made an emergency landing at Batam airport, just south of Singapore, on Monday due to an engine problems, officials and passengers said.

A Boeing 737-200 jetliner belonging to Sriwijaya Airlines, one of the Indonesian private carrier, was bound for Jakarta from Tanjungpinang airport of Bintan island, airport and company official said.

An airline official said the plane with 122 passengers and crew onboard managed to land safely at Batam island, just south of Singapore, and no one was injured.

"We heard a big bang coming from the left engine of the plane. All passengers panicked and started praying," passenger Dian Nusa was quoted as saying by Tempointeractive news portal.

Hang Nadim's aviation safety chief Elfi Amir confirmed that the Sriwijaya plane had experienced trouble in its left engine, but said the cause was yet to be determined.

"What's certain is that the plane was in good condition when it left Tanjungpinang. The plane is currently grounded until it receives certification from the air transport department," he said.
