Infosys hires over 6,000 people in second quarterBangalore, Oct 9 - Infosys Technologies Ltd, including its subsidiaries, hired 6,069 people during the second quarter (July-Sep) of this fiscal (2009-10), increasing the total headcount to 105,453 employees, the IT bellwether said Friday.

With the exit of 4,521 employees in the quarter under review (Q2), the net addition is 1,548 as against 5,927 in the same quarter year ago.

"Attrition declined to 10.9 percent by September end from 11.1 percent quarter ago and 12.8 percent year ago," the company said in a statement while announcing its financial performance for the second quarter of this fiscal.

Gross addition in the first quarter (April-June) was 3,538 and in the second quarter year ago 10,117 people.

Of the total employees, 97,594 are software engineers, including 87,798 billable and 6,996 trainees.

"In response to the economic crisis, we had stepped up our investment in training. This has made us more competitive in fulfilling client needs today," Infosys' board member, and human resources development (HRD) and education & research head, T. V. Mohandas Pai said.

The global software major also implemented its programme (iRACE) for growth-focused career architecture to transform its people strategy.

Employee utilization excluding trainees has sequentially gone up to 73.2 percent from 70.9 percent in the first quarter. (IANS)
