ISRO to launch weather satellite Megha Tropiques soon
The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) would launch a weather satellite, the 'Mehga Tropiques' in coming times. The satellite has been developed by collaboration of Indian and French space agency CNES (Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales). It has been specially designed to analyze tropical study and causes of cyclones, monsoons, and other climate and weather related phenomenon.
ISRO chairman G Madhavan Nair said that Megha Tropiques is a mini-satellite developed by France and India. Its weight is 500 kilograms. The satellite was scheduled to launch around 2005 as per official website of ISRO but it is now likely to launch at the end of 2009. It would help to study climate changes and related research on atmospheric phenomena. It would bring a multi-frequency microwave scanning radiometer (MADRAS) to study humidity level in atmosphere. The satellite is expected to launch at ISRO's launchpad at Sriharikota by a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV).
ISRO is encouraged by its successful unmanned Moon mission that has started to send clear pictures of lunar surface. The moon impact probe (MIP) would help to find the prospectus of life on moon besides studying various aspects of Moon's geography. Scientists are analyzing 3200 images of Lunar surface and many of them are likely to be released for public very soon.
