Jalsa fever in Jaipur

It is the time when colleges from around the state meet and do what youngsters do at their age—lots of learning and loads of masti

Come on girls, set the ramp on fire………….walk a little elegantly Amideep…. and you Smita….!! Try to carry some attitude while walking on the ramp……….” Pooja Rajvanshi, faculty member shouts out instructions to students during the fashion show rehersals for the Jalsa festival. The third edition of inter-collegiate festival Jalsa being organised from February 23-25 by Dainik Bhaskar in association with business school EMPI, New Delhi, has become the buzzword among college students. 

The excited cheers and applause of students echoing during the performances at the fest was contagious as the the large crowd gathered at the SMS grounds on Tuesday caught up with the excitement. Some showed their acting and singing talents while others exhibited their entrepreneurial skills in the business quiz round. Street plays, conveying social messages, enlightened and entertained the onlookers. 

Satire was presented through a street play, Itni si baat—a hilarious performance by Commerce College students. The satire was directed towards Valentine's Day.

“There are two things that come from an event like this,” says Rajvanshi, one of the instructors from Kota. She further adds, “One is the potential for creativity and the second is to have fun.” Siddharth Bhatnagar, one of the students in the group says, “We are not only learning but also having fun.” He does not forget to mention that his college was the runner-up in the last Jalsa.  

Various management events, cultural events and entertainment programmes are being organised in the fest at Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur. Students of about 75 colleges are taking part in the Jaipur events under 4 segments—Brain Drain, Art Villa, Broadway and Temptation. During this 3-day event, students will be participating in different activities in these segments including B-quiz, modern art, fashion show, orchestra, and war of the DJ. The main attractiwill be the performance by Mahalaxmi Iyer on Wednesday.
