Jordan's king congratulates Obama, hopes to work together for peace

US President Barack ObamaAmman  - Jordan's King Abdullah II on Friday congratulated US President Barack Obama on winning the Nobel Peace Prize, vowing to work together to arrive at "just and comprehensive peace" between Israel and its Arab neighbours, according to a royal court statement.

In a congratulatory cable to Obama, the monarch expressed "keenness on working with President Obama to achieve just and comprehensive peace in the region on the basis of approved references that guarantee the establishment of an independent Palestinian state that lives in peace with Israel," the statement said.

King Abdullah also recalled "the positive impact of Obama's speech in Cairo in June, when he pledged to forge ties between the United States with the Arab and Islamic worlds on the basis of mutual respect and the commitment to the two-state solution in the Middle East".  dpa
