Kalmin to remain at top job post merger

Kalmin to remain at top job post mergerSteven Kalmin, the chief financial officer at Glencore is most likely to remain at his top job after the company's merger with Xstrata.

It is believed that Trevor Reid, Xstrata's finance chief as well as head Mick Davis are likely to step down from their posts after the merger. Some suggest that the executives decided to leave the company after shareholders did not approve a £140m of loyalty bonus aimed at keeping the top staff after the merger. However, Xstrata officials said that the executives are not leaving the company due to lack of bonus. Davis is leaving the company with his boss, with whom he worked to turn the small company into a leading company in its industry.

Xstrata is the world's largest seaborne exporter of thermal coal and the combining of the two companies will create world's fourth-largest mining company. The joint entity will be formed after combining Glencore's global trading operations with Xstrata's coal, copper, and zinc production. The joint entity will have more than 130,000 employees in more than 40 countries around the world.

Glencore is a major commodities trading player that buys and sells commodities like metals, crops and fuels in the financial markets and invests in mining companies.
