Kaminey in trouble for hurting sentiments of Jagannath devoteesRecent movie ‘Kaminey’ starring Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra may have won hearts of people, and got rewarding comments from various actors and filmmakers in Bollywood, but it has unconsciously hurt the religious sentiments.

Devotees of Lord Jagannath have revolted against the film for “derogatory reference” to Orissa’s reigning deity, Lord Jagannath. The priests of the world-famous Jagannath temple have burned posters of the film.

An FIR has been filed by the religious group known as the Jagannath Sena Sangathan against production house UTV Motion Pictures Ltd and director Vishal Bhardwaj at a police station in Puri. Police is investigating the matter however the scene has been deleted from the prints released in Orissa.

Damodar Mahasuar, temple priest says: ‘‘There’s a scene in the film in which a well-known Hindi phrase, Apna haath Jagannath (self-help is best) is written on the toilet door. A photograph of a scantily-clad woman is alongside. This desecrates the image of our revered god.’’
