Karnataka HC Directs Medical Colleges To Discharge 145 PG Students

Karnataka HC Directs Medical Colleges To Discharge 145 PG Students In a significant move, the State High Court stayed the Medical Council of India (MCI) order, directing the medical colleges to discharge 145 Post Graduate (PG) students who were admitted in the state under government quota.

Hearing a petition filed by a resident of Dharwad, Justice B S Patil stayed the order of MCI discharging 145 Post-Graduate (PG) medical students who have been admitted in various private medical colleges earlier this year.

Under the all-India quota, the Union government had surrendered the PG seats to the state government. These students were then asked by the state government to join the colleges before June 14.

However, legal experts believe that if the state government wants to admit the students under all-India quota, admission should be completed before June 10. On the other hand, MCI discharged the students because the students were admitted to the colleges only after June 10.
