Kingfisher management to meet striking workers’ representatives today
The management of beleaguered carrier Kingfisher is going to hold a meeting with the representatives of striking workers today, Wednesday, in a last-minute effort to convince them to end the 16-day impasse.
The meeting will be attended by Kingfisher top-brass, some top officials from parent firm UB Group, and the representatives of striking workers.
Kingfisher had imposed the ongoing lockout on October 1 and later extended it till October 20, after the management failed to settle the dispute over non-payment of salaries.
It may be noted here that Kingfisher workers have been paid salaries for the past seven months. The workers are insisting that they would not resume work until the company pays their seven-month dues. The airline is currently burdened with with a heavy loss of Rs. 8,000 crore, plus a debt burden of another more than Rs. 7,000 crore.
Vijay Mallya-promoted Kingfisher has also been ordered by avaiation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation's (DGCA) to submit its reply to show-cause notice by October 20. The DGCA had asked Kingfisher why its flying license shouldn't be suspended or cancelled as it had grounded its entire fleet.
Kingfisher had received an airline licence in August 2003. The licence was actually issued to Air Deccan that which was acquired by Kingfisher. The airline licence has validity till December 31.
