Lightening Killed A Young Doctor Helping Bihar Flood Victims

Helping Bihar flood victims proved deadly for Chandrakant Patil, a 25-year-old Lightening Killed A Young Doctor Helping Bihar Flood Victimsresident doctor at the King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital in Mumbai. He lost his life while helping others. He and his group went to Bihar to give medical aid to victims of flood. He was killed by the lightning while 4 other doctors had a lucky escape. The team of doctors was struck by thundershowers and lighting when they were about to wind up for the day at the relief camp. Death of their teammate has shocked the team of 40 doctors who went to Bihar on September 15. His family and friends are still in trauma.

Grieving members of his family are also surrounded by financial worries. Chandrakant was family’s main financial support. His father works in a mill and his sister is pursuing her education.

Chandrakant’s friend Dr Anil Dudhbhate said, “His family really depended on him. I hope the government steps in to help them out.”

His team members say that Chandrakant's sacrifice was no less than a soldier’s sacrifice. He died helping Bihar victims. The State Association for Resident Doctors appealed to Bihar and Maharashtra state governments to provide financial help to Patil’s family as he died serving the country,  
  
Dr Anil Dudwate, General Secretary, Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors said that the Bihar government has not responded to this incident nor offered any compensation to our colleague. Doctors have appealed to citizens to come forward and help the grieving family of doctor. He died for the nation, now people and government should recognize his sacrifice and help his family.
