Kuala Lumpur, November 14 : Non-governmental organisations in Malaysia have been warned by the police not to oppose the National Fatwa Council ruling against tomboy behaviour, insisting that their move might affect the country’s safety.

"Such protests can trigger dissatisfaction within the Muslim community and this could cause tension,” New Straits Online quoted Inspector-General of police Tan Sri Musa Hassan as saying.

"Action will be taken as it involves public order. They should also respect the religion and not interfere in Muslim affairs," he said, adding that the Religious Affairs Department would be assisting the police in the matter.

His warning came as a response to the demonstration held in the city recently by non-Muslim NGOs which were against the ruling, days after he delivered a speech at a two-day seminar on the role of police in syariah courts at the Universiti Islam Antarabangsa.

Tomboy behaviour is where girls behave or dress like a boy and indulge in homosexuality. (ANI)
