Petaling Jaya (Malaysia), Mar. 2 : Penang Deputy Chief Minister P. Ramasamy has asked Malaysian Indian Congress President S. Samy Vellu to provide details about the several financial scandals linked to the party.

“He (Samy Vellu) can choose a date and hold a meeting to explain this to the people,” the Star quoted Ramasamy, as saying.

The scandals involve Maika Holdings, the Maju Institute of Educational Development and the Koperasi Pekerja Jaya Berhad.

Ramasamy said the Indian community is keen to know what happened to the funds.

He also warned Vellu that if he failed to clarify before the Bukit Selambau by-election on April 7, he would “expose some evidence” handed to him.

Earlier, Ramasamy had challenged Vellu to an open debate on contributions to the Indian community, but Vellu refused.

The trouble between the two erupted when Ramasamy asked the Malaysian Government not to channel the 70-million Ringgit allocated to the Indian community through the MIC, claiming that the party would misuse the funds.

Ramasamy, who is also the Batu Kawan MP and a Prai state assembly, had suggested that the Government should set up a trustee or disburse the money to Indians through its agencies. (ANI)
