Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), a telecom operator in India announced the launch of MNP by its scheduled deadline. Mobile Number Portability will be implemented by BSNL from October 31.

Gopal Das, officiating chairman and managing director of BSNL said that we are ready with our infrastructure to meet MNP demands and earlier due to absence of infrastructure four times it has been postponed.

As stated, MNP service involves users to retain their mobile numbers in case they want to change their operators. It is expected that MNP service will be launched by December 31, 2009 in all the metro along with states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Although MNP service would have started much earlier but operators are not ready with the infrastructure to implement MNP.

The only company, Telcordia Technologies, US based company is against MNP implementation in India. Sources reveals that the company is planning to go to the court to defend its MNP business after Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) rejected its proposal for security reason.
