Multiplexes Severely Hit By Mumbai Attacks

Multiplexes Severely Hit By Mumbai AttacksThe terror attacks on Mumbai seem to have severely affected film business.

The two new releases, ‘Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!’ and ‘Sorry Bhai’, have taken a harsh beating at the box-office. While ‘Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!’ showed 15% - 20% occupancy over the weekend, ‘Sorry Bhai!’ too seemed to be in doldrums almost everywhere. The management of many theatres/plexes were forced to call off shows due to lack of audiences.

The coming Friday [December 5] was to witness a number of medium-budget/low cost films releases, like ‘Maharathi’, ‘Dil Kabaddi’, ‘Khallballi - Fun Unlimited’, ‘Oh, My God!!’, ‘Meerabai Not Out’ and ‘Kaashh... Mere Hote’. Nonetheless, the producers of ‘Khallballi - Fun Unlimited’ and ‘Kaashh... Mere Hote’ have decided to postpone the film release.

"The timing isn't right," said Riaz Haider, the Project Head of One More Thought [Khallballi - Fun Unlimited].

"Two reasons why we postponed our film," music director turned producer Shravan Rathod said, "With so many films arriving on December 5, we felt it would kill the prospects of our film. Two, it'll take time for people to come out of the depressing phase [the terror attacks in Mumbai]. Hence, we decided to shift ‘Kaashh... Mere Hote’ to December 19."
