No Proof of Virus Causing ME Found by Research
Scientists from UK have shared that they have been able to find no proof of the speculation that a particular type of virus is the root cause of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or ME, quite contrary to the claims recently made.
The team from Imperial College London has asserted that they want to make sure that the findings are shared because some patients are currently pinning all their hopes on medication to fight the virus known as XMRV.
Researchers studied blood samples collected from as many as 186 CFS patients, and none of them were found to have the virus.
The latest findings, experts have stressed, have come as a much bitter disappointment to many, while also pointing out that more trials are currently being undertaken, reports of which are due in some months. Based on further reports, scientists will be able to draw firm and binding conclusions.
An American study, published in the journal Science, had been the exact opposite of the British claims, stressing that the retrovirus was found in 68 of 101 CFS patients.
Details of the British study have been published in the PLoS One journal.
