No violence involved in death of Irish Boyzone singer

No violence involved in death of Irish Boyzone singerPalma de Majorca, Spain  - No violent causes have been found for the death of Stephen Gately, a singer with the Irish boy band Boyzone, according to preliminary autopsy results released Tuesday on the Spanish island of Majorca.

Gately, 33, was found dead on the sofa of his apartment in Port Andratx on the island on Saturday after a night of partying with his partner Andrew Cowles.

The autopsy results, which were handed over to a Palma court, showed Gately died of an acute pulmonary oedema, an accumulation of fluid on the lungs.

There had been speculation that Gately choked on his own vomit. His family has denied that drugs were involved in his death.

A Spanish judge questioned Cowles as a witness and authorized the repatriation of Gately's body to Ireland. Other witnesses were also to be heard.

If the final autopsy results confirm that Gately died of natural causes, the case will be closed, a court official said.(dpa)
