Hong Kong shares track Wall Street gains to rally 2 per cent
Hong Kong - Hong Kong shares rose 2.07 per cent Wednesday to a two-week high following overnight gains on Wall Street.
The blue-chip Hang Seng Index gained 430.06 points to end the day at 21,241.39 points. Turnover was 65.8 billion Hong Kong dollars (8.4 billion US dollars).
Gains came across the board with commodities and banking faring well, the latter pushed higher by the prospect that China will raise interest rates sooner than expected.
Banking heavyweight HSBC gained 0.87 per cent to close the day at 87.45 Hong Kong dollars, while the Bank of China rose 3.3 per cent to 4.29 dollars. (dpa)
