Tokyo  - Stocks in Tokyo lost ground in early Friday trading following losses on Wall Street.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average index was down 119.88 points, or 1.25 per cent, to stand at 9,429.59, while the broader-based Topix index lost 7.20 points, or 0.86 per cent, to trade at 830.51.

On currency markets at 9 am (0000 GMT) the dollar traded at 88.91-94 yen, barely changed from Thursday's 5 pm quote of 88.90-92 yen.

The euro was at 1.4912-14 dollars, up from 1.4876-78 dollars the previous day and at 132.60-62 yen, up from 132.25-29 yen. (dpa)
