Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar plant to resume production on Aug 21

Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar plant to resume production on Aug 21After remaining in lockout for nearly a month, India's leading car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki will resume production at its riot-hit Manesar, Haryana-based plant on August 21.

The plant was locked in the later half of last month following a large-scale riot by workers, in which one manager lost his life.

Initially, the Manesar plant will start producing 150 cars daily with 300 workers. RC Bhargava, chairman of Maruti Suzuki, said the production will be ramped up gradually.

Deepak Jain, an auto analyst at Sharekhan brokerage, predicted that the manufacturer would be able ramp up production to 300 cars daily in two weeks and around 500 in a month.

Speaking on the topic, Mr. Jain said, "Maruti has always managed to surprise the market with the way it has managed to bounce back from several strikes and ramp up production."

The company suffered a loss Rs 10 crore in damage to property and machinery, and a revenue loss of around $256 million due to the shutdown.

The production will start with two very popular cars, viz. Swift and Dzire, and the production of the SX4 and A-Star will be resumed gradually.
