Nokia Siemens Opens $70 Million Facility In ChennaiTo strengthen its footprint in the Indian market, telecom gear manufacturer Nokia Siemens Networks has made announcement about the opening of its new Indian facility at Oragadam near Chennai, to make and distribute mobile communications equipment.

The company said that it will invest $70 million over the next 3 years in the facility and to generate 400 new jobs.

Mr. Simon Beresford Wylie, the chief executive officer of Nokia Siemens Networks, stated, “Our operations in India are a prime example of where we feel we can build on our existing leadership with prudent, customer focused investment.”

“With its proximity to the local market improving our responsiveness and reducing the carbon footprint of new network deployments, this additional facility epitomizes our global strategy to build a responsible, customer focused business,” Mr. Simon added.

The new facility will manufacture Nokia Siemens Networks mobile base station controllers, Flexi EDGE BTS, microwave radio and access line-card products, in addition to other telecom equipment.

The initial deliveries of radio access products manufactured and distributed from the site to Indian clients are scheduled for later this month.
