Chennai, Feb 12 - Bollywood stars and filmmakers participating at the second edition of the Celebrity Cricket League here say it was a good break from their hectic schedules but at the same time represented a good challenge.

"It is indeed a good break as filming can be boring all together and sports and boys always go together," said actor Ashish Choudhary, team member of Sohail Khan owned Mumbai Heroes.

The 20-20 cricket tournament has teams not only from Bollywood but also from Telugu, Kannada, Bengali and Tamil cinema.

Chennai, Feb 12 - They got married in a lavish Maharashtrian style wedding just a week ago, and the newlywed couple Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D'Souza are back to work ever since. The actor says it's only in March he would get some free time.

"Yes it has been hectic and tomorrow (Feb 12) I start promoting my film, which is releasing very soon. I think I'll get a break in March and then would only think of doing other things," Riteish told IANS on the sidelines of the semi-finals of Celebrity Cricket League held here Saturday.

Chennai, Feb 7 - An entirely new team of office bearers of the United Union of Hyundai Employees (UUHE) will hold wage negotiations at the country's second largest car manufacturing company Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), which has been embroiled in labour tensions for several years, said a top union official.

Chennai, Feb 1 - Two- and three-wheeler maker TVS Motor Company Ltd closed last month with a five percent sales growth compared to January 2011.

Announcing the monthly sales figures Wednesday, the company said it had sold 173,514 untis (171,112 two-wheelers and 2,402 three-wheelers) last month, up from 165,152 units (two-wheelers 161,725 and three-wheelers 3,427) sold in January 2011.

Within the two-wheeler segment, TVS Motor's sales of motorcycles last month was lower by 2,113 units as compared to 67,721 units sold in January 2011.

Chennai, Oct 10 - As an Indian rocket prepares to sling into orbit Wednesday a nano-satellite built by its students, SRM University has announced plans to set up a Centre for Space Technology at its campus near here.

It will be in consulation with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), said a top official.

"It is in the planning stage," SRM president P. Sathyanarayanan told reporters here Monday. "Once our satellite is launched, the talks with ISRO will progress. It may take around five or six months to come into shape."

Chennai, Oct 10 : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday conducted raids on the premises of former Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran after registering a case against him in connection with the controversial Aircel-Maxis deal.

The agency also booked his brother Kalanidhi Maran, Maxis owner T Ananda Krishnan, senior executive Ralph Marshall and three companies Aspro, Maxis and Sun TV.

Chennai, Oct 10 - Sun TV Network's stock prices came down Monday morning as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided the residence and office of its promoter Kalanidhi Maran and his younger brother, former union minister Dayanidhi Maran.

Sun TV owns a clutch of leading satellite channels in the four south Indian languages.

The company's share prices came down to Rs. 244 Monday soon after the market opened up from the previous closing price of Rs. 262.90.

At the National Stock Exchange (NSE) the stock opened at Rs. 254.40 and then the price started going down.

Chennai, Sep 20:  The eight new car models Ford Motor Co plans to roll out of its two Indian plants will be on global platform and will have several common parts, reducing costs, a company official said.

"The new models will not (be) designed for any specific market. But there will be lot of common parts to cut down on our costs," said Michael Boneham, president and managing director of Ford India.

Chennai, Sep 13 : In its drive to become a total information technology (IT) solutions provider, the US-based computer hardware major Dell will double the headcount at its Force 10 Networks centre here, said a senior official.

Dell had recently acquired the US-based $200 million revenue networking company Force 10 Networks.

Chennai, Sep 7 - The workers' strike at auto component manufacturer Comstar Automotive Technologies continued for the 28th day Wednesday with the management and the workers declining to budge from their stated positions.

"However, one positive development is that the management representatives attended the last two conciliation meetings Sep 5 and 6 under the government's pressure," Comstar Automotive Technologies Employees' Union general secretary D. Natarajan told IANS.

Chennai, Sep 1 - Two and three wheeler manufacturer TVS Motor Company Ltd closed August with 14 percent sales growth over that of August 2010, the company said in a statement issued here Thursday.

The company's total sales last month stood at 194,898 units (two wheelers 190,184 units, three wheelers 4,714 units) up from 170,735 units (two wheelers 167,109 units, three wheelers 3,626 units) registered during August 2010.

Total sales for the month of August 2011 stood at 194,898 units against 170,735 units in the corresponding month of the previous year.

Chennai, Aug 30 : The Madras High Court Tuesday stayed for eight weeks the hanging of the three convicts sentenced to death for conspiring to assassinate former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.

Hearing the petitions filed by Murugan alias Sriharan, T. Suthendraraja alias Santhan and A. G. Perarivalan alias Arivu that their death sentence be commuted, the high court ordered an interim stay on the hanging pending disposal of the case.

The court has ordered notice to the union government returnable in eight weeks.

Chennai, Aug 26 : Eighteen people fasting here in support of Anna Hazare since Aug 16 ended their protest Friday morning on the request of Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal.

"On the advice of Kejriwal, the fast is being concluded," said Bhavana Upadhyaya of India Against Corruption (IAC), the network behind Hazare's campaign for an effective anti-corruption law.

Kejriwal asked them to end their fast in view of their failing health.

Chennai, Aug 23 : The worker's strike at the auto ancillary company Comstar Automotive Technologies Pvt Ltd entered the 13th day Tuesday, with the two parties involved in the dispute sticking to their positions.

Around 425 workers of the company have been on strike since Aug 11, demanding recognition of their union and negotiations over a three-year wage accord that ended in March.

Chennai, Aug 20 : A group of protesters here continued its fast in support of activist Anna Hazare's hunger-strike for a stronger Lokpal bill for the fifth day Saturday.

According to India Against Corruption (IAC), the outfit which is supporting Hazare in his anti-corruption campaign, the total number of people on indefinite fast has increased to 41 and those on relay fast to five.

"The group which has been fasting since Tuesday has gone without food for over 100 hours," an IAC statement said here.

Chennai, Aug 6:Power transmission and distribution equipment company Areva T&D India Ltd said it is looking to complete its restructuring operations by early next year and is betting big on high capacity transformers for future growth.

"As per current estimates, the restructuring of our operations will be completed by early next year," the firm's managing director Rathindra Nath Basu told IANS.

The company is in the process of demerging its distribution business (medium voltage systems, equipment and related automation) into a wholly-owned subsidiary Smartgrid Automation Distribution and Switchgear Ltd.
