Nurse Molestation Case: AMC Withdraws Doctors' Suspension Period The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has gone soft on the suspension orders of the 28 resident doctors of ‘V S Hospital’ molested nursing students of the hospital during Holi celebrations on March 11.

In a declaration, Dy MC Dilip Mahajan stated that the suspension of all the doctors was withdrawn with immediate effect.

Mr. Mahajan also said that however, the doctors will not get any stipend for the 42 day suspension period.

Earlier, the suspension period of the 28 accused doctors was three months.

Moreover, the three main accused doctors have to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 each, along with a written undertaking that they would not indulge in such an activity after this.

The three doctors, who were awarded one year suspension, include Dr. Jaydutt Tekani of medical unit, Dr. Prakash Patel of the surgical unit and Dr. Rajesh Punhari of the paediatric unit.

The AMC had suspended these doctors on account of a committee report that had found the doctors guilty of misbehaving with the nursing students.

In this case, a group of doctors, who were drunk, led by three doctors barged into the gynecology division of the hospital and molested the nurses on duty.

As per the verdict of four-member committee of AMC, including municipal commissioner, principal Nursing School, Dean (PG Medical) and three medical superintendent of AMC run hospitals, 3 doctors have been suspended for 1-year and 25 for three months.

But, the case was full of twists, after the AMC declared the punishment for accused doctors, the case victims cried hoarse over the suspension orders and submitted a memorandum to AMC, Mayor Kanaji Thakor and Deputy Municipal Commissioner, IK Patel for placing restrictions on the harsh punishment meted out to the accused resident doctors.
