Bhopal, Oct 8 : Police in Madhya Pradesh's Damoh district are investigating the overseas calls costing over Rs. 6 lakh made from a phone, in the name of a labourer. Four people, including two employees of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), have been arrested in the case, police said Thursday.

The police learnt last week that overseas phone calls had been made from a cell phone from Damoh to Austria.

"On investigations, the police found that the SIM used in the process was issued in the name of a labourer, Dashrath Prajapati, and the user had talked for hours to a particular phone number from June 26 to Aug 21," said Damoh Police Superintendent Dilip Arya.

An inquiry has been initiated, he said, adding that the probe would also focus on whether the cell phone was being misused by anti-national elements.

Arya said preliminary investigations showed that the cell number was disconnected after the bill showed an amount of over Rs. 2.5 lakh (Rs. 250,000), but the service was resumed after 15 days and the bill was yet to be paid.

Call details have been obtained but the caller was yet to be identified, police said. Prajapati was being interrogated and Interpol have been informed, the police added.

The role of the local officials and employees of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and the SIM provider was also being probed, police said.(IANS)
