Patna HC bars RJD MP Shahabuddin from contesting general electionsPatna, Mar 24 : Patna High Court on Tuesday disallowed the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Mohammad Shahabuddin's petition seeking to contest the general elections in Bihar.

A division bench comprising Justices Shivakirti Singh and Sheema Ali Khan refused to stay his conviction in a kidnap and murder case but granted him regular bail in a bond of Rs. 10,000.

Shahabuddin is a MP from Siwan constituency.

Shahabuddin has also been directed to not to leave the Siwan district limits till the trial of the case in superior courts.

RJD chief Lalu Prasad, has however declared that Shahabuddin's wife Hina Shahab will contest the elections from Siwan.

The prosecution counsel claimed the MP was still facing charges in 26 cases, that included serious offences, and was convicted in six others, including the attack on the then Siwan superintendent of Police S K Singhal on May 3, 1996. (ANI)
