New Delhi, Feb 14: Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who is undergoing treatment for a chest infection at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), is reported to be on a minimal ventilator support and is breathing on his own.
Vajpayee underwent tracheotomy surgery for smoother airway management on February 13.
However, he is still in the ICU.
''Tracheotomy'' is a surgical procedure in which a cut or opening is made in the windpipe (trachea). The surgeon inserts a tube into the opening to bypass an obstruction, allow air to get to the lungs, or remove secretions.
New Delhi, Feb 13, : The condition of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who is being treated at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), is improving.
Doctors attending on him said that his pneumonia is under control and other parameters like, heart, kidney, liver and blood pressure were normal.
"Vajpayee is still on a mechanical ventilator. He is still in ICU. But he is making steady progress," an AIIMS statement said.
New Delhi, Feb 11: The condition of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who is undergoing treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), is improving, doctors said.
Superintendent of AIIMS D K Sharma said: "His condition has improved. He is stable now."
Doctors attending on him said that his dependence on ventilator support has reduced. They found that the condition of his lungs has improved and the oxygenation level has gone up.

Dr. Sampath Kumar, the head of the Cardiac-Thoracic Vascular Sciences, said that Vajpayee is all right and making progress.
Kumar said the performance of Vajpayee''s lungs is improving and the oxygenation level is better. He also assured that his heart, kidney, liver and blood pressure are stable.
New Delhi, Feb 9 : The condition of Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, who was admitted to AIIMS after complaining of severe chest pain last Tuesday, is stable today, doctors said.
According to doctors, his chest infection was under control and he is responding to treatment.
Head of Cardiac Thoracic Vascular Sciences Department of AIIMS Sampath Kumar said: "The pneumonia is under control with the prognosis being good. Gradually his oxygenation level has shown improvement and there is no spread of pneumonia."
