Beijing, March 20 : David Beckham arrived in Beijing Wednesday to start his role as an ambassador for the Chinese Super League (CSL) and the Youth Football Program in the country.

The 37-year-old, who was named the first global ambassador of the CSL in February, launched into his duties immediately after his arrival in the Chinese capital, visiting two local schools to promote football, Xinhua reports.

"I am very proud to be here as the ambassador for the CSL and have a chance to help the children in China," said the former England captain, who was greeted by a media scrum and hundreds of fans.

London, Feb 18  David Beckham is reportedly taking French cookery lessons from head chef Éric Frechon at his five-star Le Bristol hotel, in a bid to impress his wife Victoria.

The football legend has told Frechon - awarded three Michelin stars in 2009 - that he is particularly interested to learn about chicken and -seafood dishes, the Mirror reported.

The 37-year-old footie ace is already a keen cook and is hoping to impress his wife Victoria by adding to his repertoire.

According to a French magazine, Beckham has joined weekly French classes after his French speaking skills were labelled `awful', the Daily Express reports.

Beckham would be training with Arsenal for three weeks following his departure from Los Angeles Galaxy, the Sun reports.

Wenger commended Beckham on his quality and said that the reason behind his success is his love for football.
