Producer Anupam Mittal's much-awaited flick '99' is finally released regardless of ongoing tussle between Bollywood producers and multiplex owners on the issue of profit sharing.

The film begins in 1999 Mumbai. Sachin (Kunal Khemu) and Zaramud (Cyrus Broacha) are two small time crooks who make moolah duplicating mobile SIM cards. It was a time when mobiles craze was just catching on and not many people carried mobiles. When cops raid Sachin and Zaramud's place they steal a posh Mercedes and try to run but end up ramming it into a lamp post.

The premiere of People Pictures’ 99 was held at PVR Phoenix, on Thursday May 11th late evening. It was a well attended affair comprising of cast and crew of the film and the Bollywood celebrities.

It seems Quentin Tarantino and Guy Ritchie are the latest Hollywood directors to have influenced quite a few of their Bollywood counterparts. Even though Kunal Khemu's '99' is arriving at the time when there is still no clarity around the stand off between producers and multiplexes seeing some sort of resolution, the actor insists that 'personally', he supports the strike.

"If you ask me, then honestly speaking I support the stand that the producers have taken. I personally support this strike and even though my own film is releasing on 8th May, I am hoping that the strike is called off by then", says Kunal Khemu for which '99' would mark his third release of the year after 'Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge' and 'Jai Veeru'.

This film has an ensemble cast and Sonu is an important part of the film. So what's wrong if he gets his fair share of the limelight? For that matter, I would say even Paresh Rawal is no less than a hero in the film if you look at his role and screen presence," says Kunal, whose last outing as a hero in Superstar didn't bring in the desired results.

Featuring the talented hero Kunal Khemu, hot Soha Ali Khan, superb actor Boman Irani, comedian Cyrus Broacha, cute Simone Singh, ace director Mahesh Manjrekar and veteran actor Vinod Khanna, the flick will be directed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, who earlier directed short-titled movies including ‘Shor’ and ‘Falvors.’
