Tamil Nadu leaders to meet Manmohan Singh to discuss Sri Lankan issue

Manmohan SinghChennai, Nov 25 : Top leaders from Tamil Nadu will meet Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on December 04 to discuss the Sri Lankan issue.

The decision was taken at an all-party meeting convened by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi in Chennai today.

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) party boycotted the meeting.

Political parties in Tamil Nadu have been reiterating their demand for ceasefire between the Sri Lankan forces and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

"Manmohan Singh took over as prime minister in May 2004 and after so many days, he is talking about a 100-day roadmap," Advani said.

New Delhi, Nov 23: Addressing the conference of Directors General and Inspecters General of Police here on Sunday, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh said the virus of communal violence that threatens the secular fabric of our country needs to be checked in time.

Dr. Singh said inability of intelligence agencies and police to obtain pinpointed and actionable intelligence in time has enabled naxals to carry out high profile attacks.

The Prime Minister suggested the task force to develop within 100 days integrated capability to address emerging challenges in areas on left-wing extremism, terrorism and insurgency.

Dr. Singh asked the policemen to win the trust of civil society, if they want to succeed in democracy.

Egyptian president to hold talks with Indian premier

New Delhi  - Egyptian President Hosny Mubarak, who is on a four-day state visit to India to strengthen strategic and economic ties, was scheduled to hold talks Tuesday with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Singh and Mubarak, who was visiting India for the first time in 25 years, were expected to discuss enhancing economic ties as well as cooperation in world bodies like the United Nations and World Trade Organization, diplomatic officials said.

The Egyptian leader - accompanied by a 150-member delegation, including five senior ministers and leading businessmen - was accorded a ceremonial reception earlier in the day at the presidential palace in New Delhi.
