New Delhi, Apr 2 : The Election Commission of India on Wednesday announced that the Assembly elections in Karnataka would be held on May 10, 16 and 22.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) N Gopalaswami said that the counting of votes for the 224 Assembly seats would take place on May 25.
Thirty-six seats of the state Assembly are reserved for the Scheduled Castes (SC) and 15 are reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST).
With the announcement of the dates, the Model Code of Conduct comes into immediate effect.

Bangalore, Mar 4: A full bench of the Election Commission (EC) comprising Chief Election Commissioner N. Gopalaswami and the two Election Commissioners will meet top Karnataka leaders from various political parties here today to hear their views on the timing of state assembly polls.
Major political parties are divided over the timing of the elections, even as the state is put under President’s Rule.
The BJP and JD (S) are likely to submit memorandums to the EC bench urging it not to delay the polls beyond May.
Bangalore, Mar 3: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) N. Gopalaswami alongwith two Election Commissioners Dr. S Y Qureshi and Navin Chawla will arrive here today to review preparations of electoral rolls.
On Tuesday, the team will meet Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer Rama Seshan, Chief Secretary Sudhakar Rao and the state’s top officials. Besides reviewing electoral rolls revision, they will also evaluate redrawing of constituencies.
According to the delimitation commissions report, redrawing of constituencies has been completed in Haveri, Chamarajanagar and Kodagu districts.
