Former President R.Venkataraman cremated with full state honors

Ramaswamy VenkataramanNew Delhi, Jan. 28 : Former President R. Venkataraman, who passed away on Tuesday after a prolonged illness, was cremated at Ekta Sthal with full state honors on Wednesday.

President Pratibha DeviSingh Patil, Vice-President Mohammad Hamid Ansari, former President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram, Leader of Opposition L. K. Advani along with several other leaders laid floral wreathes on the body of the late President before it was consigned to flames.

Ramaswamy VenkataramanNew Delhi - Former Indian president Ramaswamy Venkataraman died Tuesday in a New Delhi hospital from multiple organ failure, officials said. He was 98

Venkataraman was admitted January 12 to an Indian army hospital in the capital with a urinary tract infection and sepsis.

"The former president passed away at 2:30 pm local time [0900 GMT]," a doctor at the hospital said. "He suffered from multiorgan failure and was on advanced life support systems, including ventilatory support and continuous haemodialysis."
