Sania, Shoaib meet Zardari

Islamabad, Sep 30 - Tennis star Sania Mirza and her cricketer husband Shoaib Malik Thursday met with Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari to discuss launching a fund-raising campaign for the flood victims in the country.
The couple expressed grief over the devastation caused by the floods in Pakistan, the official APP news agency reported. They met him at Aiwan-e-Sadr (his official residence here).
They told the president that they would play exhibition matches both within and outside the country to help raise funds for the affected people.
Sania through to second round of US Open women’s doubles

New York, Sep 1: Indian tennis star Sania Mirza and her Russian partner Elena Vesnina moved into the second round of the mixed doubles event at the US Open by beating of Samantha Crawford and Madison Keys.
Mirza and Vesnina registered a straight sets 6-2, 6-0, win over the American pair at Court 10.
Vesnina also moved into the second round of the mixed doubles with Leander Paes.
Paes and Vesnina defeated Nadia Petrova of Russia and Jamie Murray of Britain 6-2, 6-7(7), 1-0(6). (ANI)

New Delhi, June 4 : Bollywood star Salman Khan has only words of encouragement for India's tennis ace Sania Mirza, who lost in the women's doubles final at the French Open.
"Don't worry sania v r all proud of u. Haar jeet toh is a part of life n haar ke baad jeet hai. Jeete raho (Victory and defeat is a part of life and after every defeat, there's victory. God bless you)," Salman posted on micro-blogging site Twitter.
Sania played the match along with Elena Vesnina of Russia against Czech Republic's Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka in Paris Friday.

If hearsays are to be trusted, ace tennis star Sania Mirza and her hubby Shoaib Malik will be the part of the fourth term of Indian reality show 'Bigg Boss 4'.
Pakistani cricketer Malik was dragged into a debate earlier this year when his first wifey in threatened to take legal action him prior to his wedding ceremony to Sania.
Sania also came to limelight after breaking her engagement with her childhood pal Sohrab Mirza to marry with Shoaib.

According to media reports, Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza has said she will quit tennis within two years to concentrate on her marriage.
The News quoted Sania, as saying, "I want to concentrate on my married life and it is not an easy job to stay away from husband soon after marriage. I will quit in two years. I don't want to disturb my personal life due to tennis."

The news doing the rounds is that Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik, who tied nuptial knot with Indian tennis player Sania Mirza, joined hands with Bollywood actor Salman Khan to play against Pakistan.
At the Dubai sports city on Thursday, Malik created cricketing history by playing in Sallu's Indian team against his fellow team- mates headed by Shoaib Akhtar who played against Salman's 'being human' team from the Hindi film industry.
Apparently, Shoaib was reluctant to play against Pakistan team. It was wife Sania who convinced him.
PTF wants Sania to play for Pakistan

Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) wants Sania Mirza to play tennis for Pakistan. The PTF Chief Dilawar Abbas has said that the Indian ace Sania Mirza should play tennis for Pakistan now. Sania had married Pakistan Cricketer Shoaib Malik.
Abbas has expressed his contentment on this marriage and has said that this has been great news for Pakistan tennis community. He has also anticipated that she would become a Pakistani national and play for them in future.

Now in 2010 again she took a big hit, despite of a wrist injury and engaged in her marriage celebrations, Sania Mirza, an icon in Tennis managed to climb steps in WTA ranking issued on Monday.
Sania Mirza has 740 points in the list holding 90th position, while in the doubles she slides from 36th position to 44th position with 1875 points.
In the meantime talking about Leander Paes, he continues to remain at 6th position in the ATP list with 6520 points.
Shoaib and Sania's marriage on cards despite many accusations

Sources revealed that Shoaib and Sania's marriage is on cards on April 11 at Hyderabad.
On the other hand, Ayesha Siddiqui who claimed herself as wife of Shoaib Malik is planning to register a case against Malik for marrying and leaving her without giving formal divorce.
The Pakistani Barrister, Farooq Hassan told that Ayesha’s father Ahmed Siddiqui called him from India and asked him to file a case against Malik.
Hassan has not yet decided on what grounds and under which law should he file a case against Malik.

Sania should marry an Indian if she wishes to play for India, adding that she is longer an Indian. Had she truly been an Indian at heart, she would not have chosen a Pakistani, the Shiv Sena said in the party mouthpiece ''Saamna.''
The Shiv Sena, further objecting to Sania's marriage, asserted she should marry an Indian in order to retain Indian nationality.
Sania Mirza hopes to play in Commonwealth Games

Indian tennis player Sania Mirza has said that she hopes for a speedy recovery so that she can return to the game and also participate in the commonwealth games this year to be held in Delhi.
Mirza has suffered a wrist injury as she complained of a pain in an earlier wrist problem during the Dubai Tennis Championships last month.
"I will surely play Commonwealth Games and I am preparing for it. But for the next six weeks I would not be able to play and practice due to my injury. Let me recover from my injury, then I will start playing," said Sania.

India has qualified to the Group-I of the Fed Cup as India dumped Malaysia 3-0 in Group A of the Asia/Oceanic Group II of the Fed Cup in Kuala Lumpur.
India dominated in all three matches against Malaysia including two singles and one doubles match as they won all matches without even losing a single set.
Poojashree Venkatesha gave India 1-0 lead as India’s no. 2 outplayed Chin-Bee Khoo in straight sets by 6-1, 6-1. Sania Mirza extended the lead to 2-0 after she thrashed Jawairiah Noordin 6-1

Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza and Leander Paes have stormed into the next round of Australian Open after winning their respective matches in the women's and men's doubles event respectively at the Melbourne Park on Friday.
The 10th seeded duo of Sania and Virginia Ruano Pascual of Spain has defeated Swiss-Italian duo Timea Bacsinszky and Tathiana Garbin in straight sets by 7-6(3) 6-3 in the second round to move into the pre-quarterfinal of the women's doubles event.

Auckland, Jan 5 : India's Sania Mirza rallied from a set down to beat Swiss teenager Stefanie Voegele 5-7, 6-1, 7-5 in the opening round of ASB Classic tennis here Tuesday. She, however, lost in the doubles opener with new partner Virginia Ruano Pascual.
Sania and Pascual, seeded second, bowed out to Dominika Cibulkova and Yanina Wickmayer 6-1, 7-6 (6).
In the singles, an erratic first set saw seven breaks of serve before Voegele closed it in her favour.

Tokyo, Oct 15 : Indian tennis star Sania Mirza entered the semi final round of the Japan open here on Friday.
She defeated Argentina’s Marian Bartoli in the quarterfinal tie.
Sania maintained upper hand throughout the match.
Bartoli walked out of the match when she was trailing by 4-6, nil-2 in the second set.
Interacting with the media after her win, Sania said: “You always like to win match point, so it was unfortunate but I felt I was playing well and was in control. At the end of the day, a win is a win. The big thing for me is that I was outplaying a Top 15 player, who was in good form.”

Osaka, Oct 15 : Second-seeded pair of India's Sania Mirza and American Vania King crashed out of the doubles quarterfinals of the $22,0000 Japan Open tennis here Thursday.
Sania-King went down 4-6, 2-6 to French Julie Coin and Mathilde Johansson.
Sania, however, is still alive in the singles, where she plays second-seeded Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli. (IANS)
