Sania Mirza hopes to play in Commonwealth Games

Indian tennis player Sania Mirza has said that she hopes for a speedy recovery so that she can return to the game and also participate in the commonwealth games this year to be held in Delhi.
Mirza has suffered a wrist injury as she complained of a pain in an earlier wrist problem during the Dubai Tennis Championships last month.
"I will surely play Commonwealth Games and I am preparing for it. But for the next six weeks I would not be able to play and practice due to my injury. Let me recover from my injury, then I will start playing," said Sania.
India thrashes Malaysia 3-0 in Fed Cup

India has qualified to the Group-I of the Fed Cup as India dumped Malaysia 3-0 in Group A of the Asia/Oceanic Group II of the Fed Cup in Kuala Lumpur.
India dominated in all three matches against Malaysia including two singles and one doubles match as they won all matches without even losing a single set.
Poojashree Venkatesha gave India 1-0 lead as India’s no. 2 outplayed Chin-Bee Khoo in straight sets by 6-1, 6-1. Sania Mirza extended the lead to 2-0 after she thrashed Jawairiah Noordin 6-1
6-1 in the second women’s singles match.
Sania, Paes advance in Australian Open

Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza and Leander Paes have stormed into the next round of Australian Open after winning their respective matches in the women's and men's doubles event respectively at the Melbourne Park on Friday.
The 10th seeded duo of Sania and Virginia Ruano Pascual of Spain has defeated Swiss-Italian duo Timea Bacsinszky and Tathiana Garbin in straight sets by 7-6(3) 6-3 in the second round to move into the pre-quarterfinal of the women's doubles event.

Auckland, Jan 5 : India's Sania Mirza rallied from a set down to beat Swiss teenager Stefanie Voegele 5-7, 6-1, 7-5 in the opening round of ASB Classic tennis here Tuesday. She, however, lost in the doubles opener with new partner Virginia Ruano Pascual.
Sania and Pascual, seeded second, bowed out to Dominika Cibulkova and Yanina Wickmayer 6-1, 7-6 (6).
In the singles, an erratic first set saw seven breaks of serve before Voegele closed it in her favour.

Tokyo, Oct 15 : Indian tennis star Sania Mirza entered the semi final round of the Japan open here on Friday.
She defeated Argentina’s Marian Bartoli in the quarterfinal tie.
Sania maintained upper hand throughout the match.
Bartoli walked out of the match when she was trailing by 4-6, nil-2 in the second set.
Interacting with the media after her win, Sania said: “You always like to win match point, so it was unfortunate but I felt I was playing well and was in control. At the end of the day, a win is a win. The big thing for me is that I was outplaying a Top 15 player, who was in good form.”

Osaka, Oct 15 : Second-seeded pair of India's Sania Mirza and American Vania King crashed out of the doubles quarterfinals of the $22,0000 Japan Open tennis here Thursday.
Sania-King went down 4-6, 2-6 to French Julie Coin and Mathilde Johansson.
Sania, however, is still alive in the singles, where she plays second-seeded Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli. (IANS)

Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza has made into the quarterfinals of the women's singles event of the US $220,000 Japan Open as she ousted Ukraine's Viktoriya Kutuzova in straight sets in Japan on Wednesday.
Sania, who won her first Grand Slam title with Mahesh Bhupathi earlier this year, clocked just one hour and 23 minutes to defeat her opponent 6-4, 6-3 in the second round. Both Sania and Kutuzova played poorly in the first set as both committed five double faults each.
However, Sania earned one breakpoint to take lead by 1-0 in the first set and raced away with the set.

Osaka, Oct 14 : India's Sania Mirza stormed into the $220,000 Japan Open tennis quarterfinals with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Ukraine's Viktoriya Kutuzova in the second round here Wednesday.
The 22-year-old Hyderabadi, who defeated fifth-seeded Israeli Shahar Peer in the first round, now plays second-seeded Marion Bartoli of France.
Bartoli, who won the title in 2006, defeated Japanese wild card Kurumi Nara 6-1, 6-1.(IANS)

Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza has stormed into the second round of the women's singles event of the Japan Open after knocking out fifth seeded Shahar Peer of Israel in the first round at Osaka, Japan on Monday.
The 22-year old, Sania ousted her frequent doubles partner Peer in a three setter match by 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 52 minutes. Sania was broken thrice in the first set but Sania saved three break-points in the second set to level the match. Sania held her nerves in the decider to win the set and match.

Sania and her partner Daniel Nestor of Canada went down to the unseeded pair of Carly Gullickson and Travis Parrott of USA in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 at Flushing Meadows. The Indo-Canadian pair struggled to find their feet on the grass court as their serve was broken twice by their opponents.

Sania was looking helpless against the powerful serves of 10th seeded Flavia as Sania failed to win even a single game in the match. Sania lost the match to her opponent in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 in just 50 minutes.

Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza has stormed into the semifinals of the women's single event of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournament in Vancouver with prize money of $75,000. The top seeded Sania defeated Canada's Rebecca Marino in the quarterfinal match on Friday.
Sania fought hard for win over the 18-year-old Marino but she used her experience to win the three setter match 7-6 (2), 6-7 (3), 6-4 in the Canadian city.
Sania won the first set after it went to tie-breaker. Marino stroked back to win the second set but Sania held her nerves to win the decider set and the match.

The top seeded Sania was in awesome flow and the two times former finalist of Vancouver Open, Laura was not able to match her performance.

Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza has stormed into the second round of the women's single event of $175,000 Oldum Brown Vancouver Open after defeating American qualifier Mallory Cecil in the first round on Wednesday.
The top seeded Sania ousted Cecil in straight sets by 6-4 7-5 to move to next round of the tournament. Sania fought hard in both sets against Cecil and second sent went to tie-breaker but Sania held her nerves to win the match.
Sania will now clash with the two-time former VanOpen runner-up, American Laura Granville in the second round.

India tennis stars including Somdev Devvarman, Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi have faced drop in their respective rankings in the latest ATP and WTA rankings issued on Tuesday.
Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza has slipped to 85th position in the women's singles category while she retained her 37th rank in the women's doubles category. Sania had crashed out in the second round of Wimbledon championship due to which she lost seven places.
Somdev's ranking has dropped to 153rd place while Bhupathi slipped one spot to be at ninth position in the men's doubles rankings.
Sania rises in latest ATP rankings

Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza has jumped three places to 80th position in the latest Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings released on Monday after clinching the title of ATL Lexington Challenger in Lexington.
Sania lifted the title of Lexington Challenger with prize money of $50,000 after defeating the top seeded Julie Coin in the final match by 7-6 6-4 on Monday.
However, Sania slipped 10 places in the women's double ranking to stand at 49th position.
