Washington - Alaska Governor Sarah Palin on Thursday said she was confident that she could take over the presidency if called upon, in her first interview since accepting the nomination to run as vice president with Republican nominee John McCain.

Palin, governor since 2006, was little-known nationally until she was named two weeks ago as McCain's running mate. She has faced questions from Democrats about whether she has the experience - especially in foreign policy - to be vice president to the 72-year- old McCain.

A Fox News report has suggested that CNN messed up big time by showing a photo of Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin in a bikini and clutching an AK-47 assault rifle.

That photo, it seems, has turned out to be a fake and joins a series of incidents in the recent past that involve apparent misstatements or inaccurate reporting by the news network.

A Washington Post-ABC News poll released this week showed white women swinging hard against the Democratic ticket. Obama left Denver with an 8-point lead among white women; and by the time John McCain pulled out of St. Paul, Minnesota, with Palin at his side, he had taken a 12-point lead.

The actor fears that Palin''s running mate John MCCain won''t survive a full four-year-term as president, and claims the Alaskan governor taking over would be ‘a really scary thing.’
